Regulatory & Public Law Solicitor 3-5 years PQE l Top 100 Firm l City of London:

The Firm

This Top 100 firm advises businesses across construction, energy and resource management, higher education, and financial services, complementing their market-leading position within housing, local government, and health and social care.

The firm currently employs over 600 people, including over 90 partners, and they have an award-winning employment team. Equally, they are awarded in other areas, including construction, commercial, corporate, property, regulatory, employment, and litigation.

On a cultural level, the key focus areas for the firm are community and engagement; environmental sustainability; well-being; and diversity and inclusion. These commitments are evidenced through regular events, talks, and surveys that take place across all those topics, and there are opportunities to get involved in pro bono and other charitable work.

Recent successes include 'Law Firm of the Year' at the Law Society Legal Awards and The Times 'Best Law Firm to Work For'.

The Department:

This Top 100 firm's Litigation, Regulatory, and Public Law team is a market leader in the health, social care, and local government sectors and continues to grow its profile and client base in the financial services, commercial, and higher education sectors.

The team sits within the Litigation, Advisory & Regulatory department, which deals with substantial commercial, regulatory, and public law disputes.

The team primarily acts for public bodies such as local authorities, health trusts, regulators, oversight bodies, and statutory bodies, and they also act for higher education institutions and corporations, including private and charity sector providers of public services.

Given the nature of their clients, the cases on which they work regularly touch on live socio-economic or political issues, whether that be within local government, health, higher education, or financial services, often raising novel issues.

The lawyers find this work highly rewarding as a result. They have strong and trusted partnerships with the clients they work with, who genuinely value their support.

The Role:

The firm is seeking a regulatory and public law solicitor with 3-5 years of PQE in the City of London office; however, the team operates within a very flexible hybrid working model.

The role will focus on the regulatory and public law work the team does.

As such, you can expect to be involved in:

  • Advising regulatory bodies across sectors, including financial services, professional discipline, and other sector and economic regulators, on the use of their regulatory powers, including handling appeals and public law challenges.
  • Advising ombuds schemes on decision-making and handling complaints and challenges
  • Advising public service providers, commissioners, and regulators on their decision-making, including the risk of judicial review
  • Handling judicial review claims in the High Court and appellate courts
  • Supporting clients in responding to regulatory interventions
  • Supporting clients engaging with public inquiries, including advice on disclosure obligations and responding to r9 requests/s21 notices.

In joining a growing team, you will have the opportunity to work for a number of the firm's key strategic clients and a range of partner leads and colleagues across several of the firm's key sectors while managing your own caseload.

The team wholeheartedly embraces hybrid working, with each colleague having the flexibility to self-determine what works for them. The firm has an exciting and ambitious strategic growth plan, which means there is significant opportunity to support career progression for the right candidate.

The ideal candidate:

  • Solicitor: 3-5 PQE
    • You must have experience acting for or a strong interest in public bodies; this is essential.
    • The successful candidate will work with partners and associates on business development, so an interest in supporting business development activities and initiatives would be beneficial.

If you're looking for a new opportunity, this is an excellent chance to join a leading team based in their City of London office, with a very flexible approach to hybrid working.
